ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Police in Albuquerque say a stolen van suspect is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after leading officers on a chase in the city's northeast section.
KOB-TV reports that police officers tried to stop the man driving the van about 11 a.m. Saturday.
Police used technology to track him and he crashed the van into a parked car, then ran toward an apartment complex.
Officers say the man appeared to be getting some sort of weapon out of his front pants pocket and shot himself in process of running from police.
The man later died at a hospital. His name hasn't been released yet.
