Man who shot, wounded Albuquerque policeman gets prison term

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — An Albuquerque man who shot and wounded a city police officer in 2015 has been sentenced to nearly 18 years in federal prison for unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition. Prosecutors say 40-year-old Christopher Cook received a 212-month prison term Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Santa Fe. Cook previously pleaded guilty to state charges in the January 2015 shooting of Officer Lou Golson and was sentenced to 20 years in prison in July 2016. Golson was shot during a traffic stop in Bernalillo County. According to court records, Cook was prohibited from possessing either firearms or ammunition because he previously had been convicted of at least 11 felony offenses, including two involving attempted aggravated assaults on peace officers. Cook pleaded guilty to a federal indictment in September 2016.
