Brush fire destroys sheds, vehicles in San Juan County

FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) — Authorities in northwestern New Mexico say a brush fire destroyed a number of sheds and vehicles on private property and sent three people to the hospital with minor injuries. Crews from San Juan County, the Farmington Fire Department, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Navajo Nation all responded after the fire broke out Tuesday evening. Authorities tell the Farmington Daily Times (http://bit.ly/2rVuxBd) that several homes in the area had exterior damage and that two residents and a firefighter were treated for smoke inhalation and other minor injuries. In the mountains of northern New Mexico, a shelter was opened for residents to find respite from smoky conditions. A blaze burning in Bonita Canyon has charred more than 11 square miles since being sparked by lightning nearly three weeks ago.
