District Attorney: Murder suspect in New Mexico kills self

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a New Mexican woman who was set to enter a plea agreement for the 2016 killer of her father-in-law has taken her own life.Fourth Judicial District Attorney Richard Flores told the Las Vegas Optic this week that Ruth Rivera was found dead before her scheduled appearance Monday for a plea bargain hearing.The 54-year-old Rivera was charged with first-degree murder and embezzlement in the December 2016 death of her 81-year-old father-in-law Arthur Rivera.She was out on bail and had been granted permission by a judge last week to travel to Albuquerque to meet with attorneys.No exact cause of death was immediately available.
