KANW KEDP Collaboration

KEDP and KANW Radio Collaborate

February 6, 2021

Las Vegas, N.M. – New Mexico Highland University and Albuquerque Public Schools collaborate to bring KEDP radio back to the airwaves in Las Vegas. The collaboration brings KEDP together with KANW from Albuquerque.

KEDP 91.1 will be rebroadcasting KANW New Mexico Public Radio later this month.

“KANW is respected across New Mexico, and New Mexico Highlands is excited about the unique programming and possibilities this partnership opens for the Las Vegas community,” said Sam Minner, Highlands University president.

Michael Brasher, KANW general manager said: “KANW is honored to be collaborating with KEDP and New Mexico Highlands University to provide this essential service to the citizens of Las Vegas. KANW looks forward to being part of the community.”

The KANW operation of KEDP will provide the citizens of Las Vegas and San Miguel County access to public radio, as provided by the 1968 Public Broadcasting Act. KANW's operation of KEDP will bring programs to Las Vegas and surrounding areas that are otherwise not available to the community.

Minner noted that this collaboration will add to the excellent radio program chocies already available to the local residents.

KANW will provide public service announcements for Highlands and the Las Vegas community across a greater coverage area including northern, central and western New Mexico.

The KANW Radio Broadcast Class will be offered free of charge to New Mexico Highlands University students, as well as Las Vegas high school students. KANW teaches the class in the spring and fall, and class size is limited.

KANW broadcasts National Public Radio programs from 4 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday through Friday with Morning Edition, On Point, Fresh Air and 1A. Each weekday from 9 to 10 a.m., KANW broadcasts different programs including Concerning New Mexico, Report from Santa Fe, the Splendid Table, Radio Lab, the Ted Radio Hour and Reveal.

KANW broadcasts New Mexico Music from 12 to 6 p.m. daily, and Tuesday through Saturday evenings and overnight. On Monday nights, KANW broadcasts the Native Music Hours program from 7 to 10 p.m. Other programs on KANW include Country Classics, Classical Music for a Sunday Morning, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, Sound Opinions and many more. For a complete program schedule, visit www.KANW.org.

Highlands owned and operated KEDP radio station since 1967, when Highlands had a communication art major that it no longer has. In 2020, Highlands requested applications for the transfer of KEDP 91.1 FM radio station license and equipment to an eligible entity. The university selected KANW radio, the oldest FM radio station in the state.
