Santa Fe man gets prison sentence for assaulting BIA officer

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A Santa Fe man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison in New Mexico for assaulting a federal law enforcement officer. Prosecutors say 26-year-old Jordan Roybal was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Albuquerque. Roybal was arrested last March on a criminal complaint charging him with assaulting a Bureau of Indian Affairs officer in November 2016 in Santa Fe County. Prosecutors say Roybal resisted arrest, challenged the officer to a fight and bit him on the wrist. Roybal allegedly lied about his identity and cursed, elbowed and verbally threatened the officer. He pleaded guilty to one count of an indictment last July.
