Probe launched into possible theft at Deming High School

DEMING, N.M. (AP) — Authorities have announced investigators are looking into possible embezzlement at a southern New Mexico high school.
The Deming Headlight reports school officials, police and the New Mexico Sixth Judicial District Attorney's Office announced last week they are investigating embezzlement of student fees and other funds over several years at Deming High School.
The investigation stems from the 2017 discovery of possible embezzlement of more than $140,000. However, police are giving few details.
Deming Police Chief Bobby Orosco says investigators have sent the case to a forensic auditing firm for analysis.
The Headlight reported in December of 2017 that a 63-page forensic audit by the Jaramillo Accounting Group found a former Deming High School head secretary misused a district purchase card, activity funds, purchase orders, and receipts.
