District Attorney: Murder suspect in New Mexico kills self

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a New Mexican woman who was set to enter a plea agreement for the 2016 killer of her father-in-law has taken her own life.
Fourth Judicial District Attorney Richard Flores told the Las Vegas Optic this week that Ruth Rivera was found dead before her scheduled appearance Monday for a plea bargain hearing.
The 54-year-old Rivera was charged with first-degree murder and embezzlement in the December 2016 death of her 81-year-old father-in-law Arthur Rivera.
She was out on bail and had been granted permission by a judge last week to travel to Albuquerque to meet with attorneys.
No exact cause of death was immediately available.
